Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is excited about going up against Ajax Amsterdam in the last 32 of the Europa League. The Red Devils were kicked out off the Champions League earlier this month after their disappointing 3rd place finish during the group stages. However, they were pushed into the Europa League and after being drawn against the Dutch side, Ferguson was clearly relishing it.
Ferguson told the club’s official website:
United last faced Ajax in the old UEFA Cup back in 1976 and generations have passed since. The Dutch club, who were once a European powerhouse, have been minnows in recent times. United will head into the tie as imminent favourites and even Ajax boss Frank de Boer feels so.
Although Europa League has often been discounted for it’s ‘lack of quality’, clashes like this will definitely keep the tournament alive. For a fact, both Manchester clubs have been handed tricky ties with Manchester City facing 2004 Champions League winners, FC Porto.
“Of course it’s difficult to see Lyon draw APOEL Nicosia, because if we were there we stood a good chance.
“I think it’s going to be a good experience for the trainers and off course for the players, that’s the most important thing
