It was over a full year until it was confirmed that Starbreeze Studios was working on a remake of Syndicate, albeit in a totally different genre. Gone is the top-down tactical game and in is a first-person shooter that looks reminiscent to Deus Ex: Human Revolution. The game features a four-player co-op mode that will soon be available as a demo and EA wants you to take a look.

Again, similar to Deus Ex, Syndicate throws players into the near future where massive corporations (syndicates) now govern the world. People interact with technology for day-to-day tasks via an implanted chip, a chip that corporations can use in all of the wrong and corrupt ways imaginable.

War is fought between the corporations with the help of elite, bio-engineered agents and this is where the player comes in as elite prototype agent named Miles Kilo who can hack, access and make use of any tech and weapon, including other people with implants.

Starbreeze’s Chronicles of Riddick games were solid first-person shooters with great visuals and innovative, interactive first-person gameplay. They’re the best at delivering that up close and personal style, and the gameplay videos so far showcase a great use of it in Syndicate which has sold on giving it a shot, especially with it adding a four-player co-op mode. The co-op demo comes towards the end of this month.
